About Me
I'm not sure whether it was the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the cobble stone streets of Seville, or the Diego Velázquez's paintings in Madrid; But I caught the travel bug after that high school trip. The addiction only got worse from there. I went to Buenos Aires a year later, and then New York City, Los Angeles, and San Diego the year after that. Next, I convinced a friend to fly to Vermont to go skiing with me on our senior spring break. I remember thinking, "We might as well take the two hour Gray Hound bus ride to Montreal, Quebec too!" I didn't know a single French word, besides "Oui." But that confusion only amplified my desire to see more.
There was just so. much. to. see.
In college, I was focused on a career that involved culture and constant travel. Before graduating with a Spanish Education degree, I studied abroad in Heredia, Costa Rica. I immersed myself in the language, and learned a lot about how complicated and beautiful the world is. The highs of traveling were extremely high, and the lows were painfully low and unfamiliar. That's why I fell head over heels with traveling; it's an intense mode of learning.
It was the best summer of my life. I saw as much of Costa Rica as I could, while also visiting Nicaragua and Panama. Before graduating college, I had the opportunity to teach in a San Pablo Village, Belize. It was amazing to return to Central America, and I visited Tikal, Guatemala during that trip.
I married my best friend a month after college graduation, and a new adventure began. We lived in Georgia for several months during his training, which was a great opportunity for more trips. Savannah was my first official solo trip. Then the army moved us to Kansas, which I was not too excited about it. However, I was excited for my life with Sam. Kansas City became my escape from living in the middle of nowhere. Sam and I grew up on the east coast, so exploring the Midwest has been something new. Des Moines is next on the list!
For now, I’ll be teaching high school Spanish and saving up for a solo backpacking trip next summer. I created this blog to share travel tips and recommendations, based on my experiences. I’ll also document and explain how to plan a solo-backpacking trip. Let’s see the world!
